I assume you clicked "Test Connection" and saw a success? You're right in that "The stock item was unable to be saved. Please try again." is commonly related to ElasticSearch issues.

Slow saving products after upgrade to MariaDB 10.4 (Magento 2.4.5-P1 and PHP 8.1)
I would double check slow query log is working. Set long_query_time to 0 and verify you see results appended to the log.

Yes they take care of hosting it in their repo and making it accessible via composer

What do you mean exactly by CSS/JS not loading? 404 on storefront for the assets? The html source isn't including these assets? They're not on disk? etc. etc. etc. Also what's your PHP version?
