Is it possible to move an argument defined in a layout?

For example I want to move the authentication jsComponent in Magento_Checkout/view/frontend/layout/checkout_index_index.xml to be a child of my custom step. I have tried things like this:

but that doesn't seem to work. Is this possible?

It is possible by copying/pasting the original XML, you can't use the move instruction to achieve this.

To remove the original component you can use the following XML:

<item name="config" xsi:type="array">
    <item name="componentDisabled" xsi:type="boolean">true</item>
