Yes, adding a composer require for every single package would work also. But that's the same as editing composer.json manually. There are about 20 packages that jumped from 100.0 to 100.1 , so I modified composer.json directly.

Did you try something like this: composer require magento/magento-composer-installer:100.1.0 followed by composer update ? But if you already applied the patch I don't think you have to do that.
