is there a overview for the new form validation attributes in Magento 2?

35

You can add class for validation in Magento 2. See example bellow. There is almost 72 rules (validation class) you can use:

$fieldset->addField(
    'email_from',
    'text',
    ['name' => 'email_from', 'label' => __('Email From'), 'title' => __('Email From'), 'required' => true, 'class' => 'validate-email']
);

See blog for list of available rules for more info:

Here is list of validations classes rules supported by magento 2. You just need to add css class for the rule to apply.

There are 3 different ways to use form validation in magento 2

To enable javascript validation use following code in your template

<fieldset class="fieldset">
     <legend class="legend"><?php echo __('Personal Information') ?></legend>

          <?php echo __('Email') ?>

              <input type="email" name="email" id="email_address" value="" title="<?php echo __('Email') ?>" class="input-text" data-validate="{required:true, 'validate-email':true}">

</fieldset>

          <button type="submit" class="action submit primary" title="<?php  echo __('Submit') ?>"><?php echo __('Submit') ?>

1

2

3

*custom-form is form id you can replace it with your form id

In UI components it can be used by following sample config (Magento v2.2.0):

    <fieldset name="general">
        <field name="priority" sortOrder="1000" formElement="input">
            <settings>
                <validation>
                    <rule name="not-negative-amount" xsi:type="boolean">true</rule>
                </validation>
                [...]
            </settings>
        </field>
    </fieldset>

    fi
  else
    # match message

for i in "${!list[@]}"
do
  printf "%s:\n    %s\n" "${i}" "${list[$i]}"

If you take reference of /customer/account/create page, you can see the following piece of code underneath the form:

And if you check at form's input attributes, you can see Magento 1 like class attribute values along with new data-validate attribute. This can be the basis to step up.

Keys files for Validation:

  • Thx for the answer. I found the new attribute data-validate too, but it's interesting what validations are available. In my case I want to validate a Checkbox and a set of RadioButton – ClassMP Dec 28 '15 at 10:13
  • I want to apply server side validation in magento 2 can you pls share me any link or doc. – Khushbu_sipl Feb 20 '17 at 10:08

I have same requirement for Magento2 Form Validation and i did this code

First we will setup a test form

   <fieldset class="fieldset">
       <legend class="legend"><?php echo __('User Personal Information') ?></legend>

            <?php echo __('Email') ?>

                <input type="email" name="email" id="email_address" value="" title="<?php echo __('Email') ?>" class="input-text" data-validate="{required:true, 'validate-email':true}">

   </fieldset>

            <button type="submit" class="action submit primary" title="<?php  echo __('Submit') ?>"><?php echo __('Submit') ?>

To enable javascript validation for Magento2 Form Validation

When use UI components to make form, we could use the validation like below, it works in Magento 2.1.x, I doesn't test it in other version yet.

<field name="priority">
    <argument name="data" xsi:type="array">

text

Priority

input

module_name

priority

true

true

    </argument>
</field>

Notice the validation item, in it we could add validation rules, like required-entry, validate-integer etc.

true

true

true

     ...

All validation rules you could find in file vendor/magento/module-ui/view/base/web/js/lib/validation/rules.js, like validate-date, validate-emails etc.

"no-whitespace" option does not work correctly (at least on Magento 2.1). It triggers an error message on any type of "space" character. Values "test me" and " test me " will return the same error.
