We have a Magento 2.3.5 with a simple custom theme. In the normal checkout card (not mini cart!) there are some cross selling items beneath. If a customer presses the .to-cart button on such a cross selling item it already reloads the mini cart and the totals with ajax.

Now we need to reload the normal cart (#form-validate) as well. So I've did some research and found this nice piece where you add a code for editing the qty of a cart product.

This also doesn't work because we don't "update" the cart but adding an item. (wrong context) But in that example code you find this two bits:

// The mini cart reloading
customerData.reload(sections, true);

// The totals summary block reloading
var deferred = $.Deferred();
getTotalsAction([], deferred);

Is there such a code (from a default js define block) to simply refresh the cart (without update the cart data)?
