Forgive the potentially dumb question but I'm new to magento and I have some fairly complex cart rules needed. I'm not sure if categories or product attributes (or something else I'm unfamiliar with) should be used to inform my cart rules. Two specific use cases I'm trying to solve for are:

Case 1: Product in question requires a professional installation but installation may be unavailable in the user's location. Should I use a category "Pro Install Required" or some product attribute to include the necessary form fields in that product detail page to determine the users location

Case 2:

  • Product 1 has a specific monthly subscription in addition to the cost of the item (ie $10/month to support the product)
  • Product 2 has a specific monthly subscription in addition to the cost of the item(ie $20/month to support the product).
  • User adds both to cart and in the cart and cart summary, I need to show that their monthly subscription tier is the higher of the two products. Should categories or attributes be used.

Also, if there is some other way to solve it in magento, what would that be?
