I'm not sure how you setup the upload but in PHP you can do stuff like this:

if(isset($_FILES['uploaded_file'])) {
    $maxsize    = 2097152;

    if(($_FILES['uploaded_file']['size'] >= $maxsize)) {
        exit('File too large. File must be less than 2 megabytes.');

On top of that you can use php.ini settings to limit the upload size:

; Maximum allowed size for uploaded files.
upload_max_filesize = 40M

; Must be greater than or equal to upload_max_filesize
post_max_size = 40M

May be you need to update your php.ini like below:

post_max_size = 8M

upload_max_filesize = 8M
