I've had a few people ask me about this recently, and I don't have much of an answer for them, I can't find much info on this elsewhere.

What I'm trying to do is resetting a set catalog price rule in the cart based on cart quantity.

Basically around certain periods in the year we can not put items in direct SALE. We can do quantity based pricing. Ex. buy 2, get 50%. However we do want the catalog itself and product page to display the product's MSP: -50%.

When adding the item to the cart it should show clearly that by buying a 2nd item, the client will get 50% of this item. The single item should not be able to be ordered at the discounted catalog rule price.

How would I go about fixing this issue? This is what I got so far:

  • I can address the issue by NOT applying the catalog price rule and thus checking the carts contents quantity > 2 => giving both products the discount. However the catalog will show the full price and not the discounted price
  • I can show the discounted price rule, but not change the price in the cart if the quantity is not met. The client will be able to buy the item at the discounted price without the requirement of a second item.
  • I can add a promo banner to the cart page about this promotion

Edit: I found a site in Belgium called D E L E Y E . BE, they seem to have sorted this problem.
