I have created custom module and update layout for catalog product listing page and product detail page shown below.

<layout version="0.1.0">
<catalog_product_view translate="label">
        <reference name="product.info.addtocart">
            <block type="core/template" name="mytest" template="mytest/mytest.phtml"/>
        </reference>
        <reference name="product.info.additional">
            <block type="core/template" name="mytest"
                   template="mytest/mytest.phtml"/>
        </reference>
    </catalog_product_view>
    <catalog_category_layered translate="label">
        <reference name="product.info.addtocart">
            <block type="core/template" name="mytest" template="mytest/mytest.phtml"/>
        </reference>
        <reference name="product.info.additional">
            <block type="core/template" name="mytest"
                   template="mytest/mytest.phtml"/>
        </reference>
    </catalog_category_layered>
</layout>

Its working fine for product detail page but it won't work on catalog product listing page.

Please advice me how to add custom block under the product price/Add Cart button in product listing page?

This will work well for <catalog_product_view>. The reason is because the child blocks are called out in the phtml files.

For the Catalog Product List you will need to do a bit more.

In 1.9.2 if you open the /template/catalog/product/list.phtml, you will see the below code:

<?php
// Provides extra blocks on which to hang some features for products in the list
// Features providing UI elements targeting this block will display directly below the product name
if ($this->getChild('name.after')) {
   $_nameAfterChildren = $this->getChild('name.after')->getSortedChildren();
   foreach ($_nameAfterChildren as $_nameAfterChildName) {
     $_nameAfterChild = $this->getChild('name.after')->getChild($_nameAfterChildName);
     $_nameAfterChild->setProduct($_product);
     echo $_nameAfterChild->toHtml();
   }
}
?>

Now we will be re-using the above code logic as below:

Inside catalog.xml or local.xml paste the code:

<catalog_category_default translate="label">
    <label>Catalog Category (Non-Anchor)</label>
    <reference name="left_first">
        <block type="catalog/navigation" name="catalog.leftnav" after="currency" template="catalog/navigation/left.phtml">
            <block type="core/text_list" name="catalog.leftnav.state.renderers" as="state_renderers" />
        </block>
    </reference>
    <reference name="content">
        <block type="catalog/category_view" name="category.products" template="catalog/category/view.phtml">
            <block type="catalog/product_list" name="product_list" template="catalog/product/list.phtml">
                <block type="core/text_list" name="product_list.name.after" as="name.after" />
                <block type="core/text_list" name="product_list.price.cart.after" as="price.cart.after">
                    <block type="core/template" name="mytest" template="mytest/mytest.phtml"/>
                </block>
                <block type="core/text_list" name="product_list.after" as="after" />
                <block type="catalog/product_list_toolbar" name="product_list_toolbar" template="catalog/product/list/toolbar.phtml">
                    <block type="page/html_pager" name="product_list_toolbar_pager"/>
                    <!-- The following code shows how to set your own pager increments -->
                    <!--
                        <action method="setDefaultListPerPage"><limit>4</limit></action>
                        <action method="setDefaultGridPerPage"><limit>9</limit></action>
                        <action method="addPagerLimit"><mode>list</mode><limit>2</limit></action>
                        <action method="addPagerLimit"><mode>list</mode><limit>4</limit></action>
                        <action method="addPagerLimit"><mode>list</mode><limit>6</limit></action>
                        <action method="addPagerLimit"><mode>list</mode><limit>8</limit></action>
                        <action method="addPagerLimit" translate="label"><mode>list</mode><limit>all</limit><label>All</label></action>
                    -->
                </block>
                <action method="addColumnCountLayoutDepend"><layout>empty</layout><count>6</count></action>
                <action method="addColumnCountLayoutDepend"><layout>one_column</layout><count>5</count></action>
                <action method="addColumnCountLayoutDepend"><layout>two_columns_left</layout><count>4</count></action>
                <action method="addColumnCountLayoutDepend"><layout>two_columns_right</layout><count>4</count></action>
                <action method="addColumnCountLayoutDepend"><layout>three_columns</layout><count>3</count></action>
                <action method="setToolbarBlockName"><name>product_list_toolbar</name></action>
                <!-- Since the addColumnCountLayoutDepend does not work, we are manually setting the max columns -->
                <action method="setColumnCount"><count>4</count></action>
            </block>
        </block>
    </reference>
</catalog_category_default>

If you can notice, there is a block called:

<block type="core/text_list" name="product_list.price.cart.after" as="price.cart.after"> <block type="core/template" name="mytest" template="mytest/mytest.phtml"/> </block>

This will help display all your custom blocks in one place. Since you want to display this custom below Price/Add to Cart, search for "GRID MODE" and inside the FOREACH loop the in the file - /template/catalog/product/list.phtml and paste the code below the div:

<?php
// Provides extra blocks on which to hang some features for products in the list
// Features providing UI elements targeting this block will display directly below the product name
if ($this->getChild('price.cart.after')) {
   $_priceCartAfterChildren = $this->getChild('price.cart.after')->getSortedChildren();
   foreach ($_priceCartAfterChildren as $_priceCartAfterChildName) {
     $_priceCartAfterChild = $this->getChild('price.cart.after')->getChild($_priceCartAfterChildName);
     $_priceCartAfterChild->setProduct($_product);
     echo $_priceCartAfterChild->toHtml();
   }
}
?>

So now your list.phtml will look like below:

        echo $_afterChild->toHtml();
    }
}
?>

Hope this helps. Let me know if this works for you.

The <catalog_category_layered> layout handle only applies to category listing pages that have the 'Is Anchor' attribute set to Yes. If you apply the same blocks to the <catalog_category_default> layout handle as well this should enable the blocks on a non layered and layered category page.

  • I tried same thing in <catalog_category_default> also, but it won't work – Kishor Hase Feb 5 '16 at 10:24

The block you are referencing (product.info.addtocart) does not exist in default product list layout

You'd place your code directly in catalog/product/list.phtml template (that's the easiest way)

  • Take a look at Shivani answer, depending by the Magento version you are using you'll able to do it the way he suggests (more elegant than editing the list.phtml template, for sure) – Raul Sanchez Feb 5 '16 at 10:26
