2015 Moderator Election

On Stack Exchange, we believe the core moderators should come from the community, and be elected by the community itself through popular vote. We hold regular elections to determine who these community moderators will be.

Community moderators are accorded the highest level of privilege on our community, and should themselves be exemplars of positive behavior and leaders within the community.

Our general criteria for moderators is as follows:

  • patient and fair
  • leads by example
  • shows respect for their fellow community members in their actions and words
  • open to some light but firm moderation to keep the community on track and resolve (hopefully) uncommon disputes and exceptions

Every election has three phases:

  1. Nomination
  2. Primary
  3. Election

Please participate in the moderator elections by voting, and perhaps even by nominating yourself to be a community moderator!

This election ended Sep 1 '15 at 20:00.
The results of this election can be viewed online via OpaVote. Anyone may download the election data. Voters have access to pre-built OpenSTV software to audit the results; all others may use this source distribution.

684 voters were eligible, 389 visited the site during the election, 383 visited the election page, and 228 voted

Fabian Schmengler

I am a Magento Certified Developer and Solution Specialist from Germany, working with Magento since 2011. In this period I have managed and trained a few Magento teams and worked as freelance consultant.

Since the last MageStackDay I have been pushing forward the answer rate and went through "unanswered" questions from time to time to upvote good 0-score answers, remind posters to accept answers or ask if they found a solution

I also put some effort in organizing tags (add meaningful tags to new questions, create tag wikis, suggest synonyms) I check the review queues daily, even though there is never much to do because so many people help out clearing them.

I like to share my knowledge here and elsewhere, as active member on StackOverflow and formerly on the German PHP forum.

I edit questions if I understand what OP wants but could not articulate it clearly because of language barriers or lack of technical knowledge. But I draw the line when it comes to "help vampires" with a lazy and demanding attitude and will make use of the moderation tools to remove these kind of questions.

  • I was wondering when your name was going to appear in here. Good job so far. – Marius Aug 21 '15 at 11:12
  • Best of luck, Fabian! – Bryan 'BJ' Hoffpauir Jr. Aug 24 '15 at 5:05

Greetings, my name is Brent Peterson. In 2009 I started as one of the original Magento Moderators and have served the Magento forums until their relaunch this year (I was the highest ranked contributor). Having started out as a developer I have now moved to a role of evangelist and coach and am again a moderator with Magento. In the last 6 years I have personally overseen 100's of Magento upgrades started with 1.0 and including the launch of Magento Enterprise and numerous upgrades from CE to EE.

In 2010 I changed roles to coach a Magento Solution Partner and helped build a team of developers who can resolve all sorts of Magento problems. In this role I often see problems that need to be solved and this gives me a particularly high level of insight to questions that need to be answered. Wading through some of the complicated details to come up with simple solutions are some of the most satisfying and exciting parts of working in Magento.

Last year I started presenting at Magento events on a variety of topics with the most important being aligning client expectations with what a developer or agency will deliver.

I am nominating myself because I am passionate about Magento.

Hi. I'm Ben. It's been my privilege to serve as moderator pro tempore. After receiving a few private messages on the matter, I'm throwing my hat in to the elected moderator pool.

In the Magento world I've been a developer & community member since 2008, a developer educator & Certification Advisory Board since 2011, and I now fill the evangelist role at Magento as an employee. I'm also the originator of the Magento SE proposal on Area 51, which I started based on my extensive participation on the tag at StackOverflow.

We're coming up on a new epoch in the Magento world with v2, and it's incredibly important to make sure that Magento SE continues to grow & improve as a resource for the ever-expanding community. Further, I think that we stand a chance to be a model for other SE sites going forward.

I wish there could be enough moderator slots to serve all of the people who deserve the role. There are several folks who do a lot for Magento SE every day, and I know that we're in capable hands no matter who's a mod.

  • Welcome to the board Ben.. Thanks for this nomination – Rajeev K Tomy Aug 19 '15 at 15:18
  • Best of luck and thanks for your service to the #realmagento community! – Bryan 'BJ' Hoffpauir Jr. Aug 22 '15 at 9:18

Rajeev K Tomy

Hello, this is Rajeev K Tomy (nickname : programmer-rkt) and I would like to shamelessly nominate myself for the Primary Magento Moderator Election.

I am spending at-least 2 hours/day here for almost one year. In that time, I use to answer, flag, edit, and moderate every bit of questions. Active participate in every #MageStackDay that are organized. I have some well-known extensions in my github account.

Quick Notes:

If you have something to say about my nomination, please comment below. I am ready to answer.

  • Nothing to say about other things but you should concentrate more on flags I feel it is one of the main thing needed for moderators apart from that you are great in everything All The Best :) – dh47 Aug 18 '15 at 3:49
  • @dh47 Thanks for your comment. About flag : From the day I am active here, I am continuously hunting spammers and low quality qn and answers. My current flag count is 99, which I think a significant number compare to other community members. You can verify that point. Thanks again. – Rajeev K Tomy Aug 18 '15 at 3:53
  • Yes I follow your answers too, well structured and accurate, just a suggestion thanks for accepting that in a positive way :) – dh47 Aug 18 '15 at 3:56

Hi I'm sr_magento,

I nominate myself as a moderator for this community.

I've raised issues about this section of SE in the meta and not much has been done to curb some of the issues such as:

  • Questions regularly voted to be closed incorrectly
  • People blindly editing accepting edits
  • Queues for editing being regularly cleared incorrectly

My Profile:

  • 69 Badges
  • 985 Votes Cast
  • 89 Helpful Flags
  • 1.5k (Have created NUMEROUS bounty questions)

The current moderators are doing a great job, but I believe I can definitely assist in improving this section by helping and make it a better place.

Thank you for your vote and your confidence!

Steve Robbins

Hi, everyone. I would like to nominate myself.

I'm new-ish to Magento SE, but have been on Stack Exchange for some time. I really believe in the developer community, and the Magento community especially has been amazing. I'm active on GitHub and Twitter. I try my best to help others when I can.. I'm calm, reasonable, and respectful of the rules. I believe I would be a good fit for a moderator of this community.

Since you can find my account stats on my MageSE profile, here are some of my other community involvements:

  • Steve (or any moderator checking these comments out), any idea why your summary box says you have 0k reputation? I see 984 when I view your profile. Maybe it should display .9 k ???? – Bryan 'BJ' Hoffpauir Jr. Aug 19 '15 at 7:04
  • @Bryan'BJ'Hoffpauir the minimum display value was 1K there is no such thing to show 0.9k or some other related. – dh47 Aug 19 '15 at 7:55
  • Hooray for integer data types :) Thanks for the explanation, though. I knew you didn't have 0 rep! – Bryan 'BJ' Hoffpauir Jr. Aug 19 '15 at 8:15

I may not be the most active user or contributor on this StackExchange, but I give my best to support an inclusive environment, which especially supports new and inexperienced Users. And with the sometimes big amount of flaming they have to face for asking sometimes dumb, or bad formulated questions, they need some support. Also I am good in seeing what people are really want to know and can edit the questions to be understandable by others, instead of just voting to close them.

I am also easy to reach if i am needed and react on pings/notes via twitter, irc and everything else.

I also have always an eye on the topics in meta, and commented or even answered a lot there.

  • great to see your nomination here! you show great participation on magento SE as well as on github and other venues in the magento community! -- from an "inexperienced" magento user like me :) – hakre Aug 17 '15 at 22:02
  • Great to see you in the board. I am sure that you can moderate community well. Kudos. – Rajeev K Tomy Aug 18 '15 at 2:00

Hi, I’m Anna!

I decided to participate in the Moderator Election even though self-nomination feels a bit awkward.

I’ve been active on magento.stackexchange.com since it started, but especially during the last year. Some might remember my name from the MageStackDays I’ve organized together with Sander Mangel, Marius Strajeru and David Manners which was all about getting lots of questions answered but also working on people’s behavior of engaging with the platform (voting, flagging, closing,…).

I like Magento, good questions and good answers which makes this a pretty good place for me.

Some facts

  • Member for 2 years, 6 months
  • Visited the site 556 days
  • 171 answers
  • 10 moderation badges
  • 77 posts edited, 40 helpful flags
  • 1,009 votes cast

See also my profile and my meta profile.

Here are my answers to the 2015 Moderator Election Q&A - Questionnaire.

  • Great to see your nomination especially as organizing magestackday.com is timed perfectly and will so-hit-a-nail this year. Congrats! – hakre Aug 17 '15 at 21:27
  • Mage Stackday is enough for you and Sander to choose as moderators All the Best – dh47 Aug 18 '15 at 3:53
  • Too bad MSD is not a criteria quantifiable by SE. but I hope everyone that participated on MSD (and not only) take into account what you've done for this website. I will vote for Anna for sure. She can bring order and discipline in here. – Marius Aug 18 '15 at 5:54

It's me, Marius

I would like to shamelessly nominate myself.

It's been an honor to be a "temp" in the past 8 months.
Now I want to be a "legal", community elected moderator.
I hope I deserve it.
I'm just gonna throw some stats here to convince you.

My stats

  • My profile
  • My meta profile
  • Member for 2 years, 6 months
  • almost 900 consecutive days on the website (897 at the time I'm writing this) and counting.
  • 926 helpful flags (before I became a temp moderator)
  • 3.8k flags handled while being a temp moderator
  • 4436 votes cast
  • 1241 posts edited
  • 26 Distinct moderation badges. (41 in total, I think)

Here are my answers to the questions in the election questionnaire.

  • don't you feel that your self-nomination isn't only shameless but also intimidating for every other nomination ? ;) (-- doesn't update on meta). – hakre Aug 17 '15 at 21:22
  • @hakre. I didn't think about it like that. But now that you mention it, I feel better :). – Marius Aug 17 '15 at 21:30
  • jokes aside, your candidate score is impressive. nothing to add. great to see your nomination. – hakre Aug 17 '15 at 21:36
  • When I became aware of election, first name came into my mind was you brother. You deserve it. Cheers, will vote definitely. – Adarsh Khatri Aug 17 '15 at 23:20
  • you deserver it and for me you already win this election :) – Keyur Shah Aug 18 '15 at 5:03
  • @KeyurShah. Thanks for the support, but I don't think this should be a discussion of who wins or not the election. We are not in it against each other. Everyone should vote for the great of the community. The winner should be the whole community in the end. – Marius Aug 18 '15 at 5:51
  • @Marius My apologies ,and Yeah winner should be the whole community in the end. :) – Keyur Shah Aug 18 '15 at 6:20
  • You definitely get my vote - I feel I owe you many beers already for all the help over the years, so a vote is the least I can send your way :-) – Henry's Cat Aug 19 '15 at 12:38
  • You deserve to be the moderator brother. – Milople Inc Aug 20 '15 at 7:48
  • Helped us on many occasions. Bravo! – snh_nl Aug 23 '15 at 13:04
  • @Marius great success ahead :-) – Butterfly Aug 24 '15 at 12:00

This election is over.
